Are they wearing contacts in Dune?

While in some movies and television, the actors wear coloured contacts, the team for Dune opted to add the blue eye colour in post-production. If you want to cosplay a Dune character you could use Dune blue contacts to get a similar effect.

Did Dune use contacts or CGI?

In the second Dune movie, they used AI technology to highlight the character’s eyes in a bright blue colour. This was designed to save time but actually changed the eye colour of some of the characters that should not have blue eyes which then had to be removed.

Why do Dune character’s eyes turn blue?

In the Dune universe, the character’s eyes turn blue when they have been using ‘spice’. This is a substance found on their planet that enhances brain function.

Why were the eyes less blue in Dune 2?

The eyes are less blue in Dune 2 because the post-production team used different technology to add blue colouring to the actor’s eyes. The algorithm was programmed to colour the Fremen’s eyes blue but it did not always differentiate between eyes and coloured some of the other characters with blue eyes which then had to be removed.

What do Fremen eyes look like?

In the book, the blue eyes are described as covering the entire eye; this means that the iris, sclera and pupil should all have a blue tint. However, to keep their human emotions, the actors in the Dune movie only had coloured irises which were added in post-production. There is also some debate as to what shade of blue the eyes should be. The Fremen eyes could have looked very different if you interpret from the book that they had a dark blue tint covering the entire eye.

If you are cosplaying a Dune character, it is more practical to ensure that you can still see so we recommend choosing Dune blue eyes contacts with clear pupil holes. The top matches for Dune contact lenses are:

  • Blue Super Sky Coloured Contact Lenses

How did Paul’s eyes turn blue in Dune 2?

Paul’s eyes turn blue in Dune 2 once he starts consuming spice which is found on Arrakis. It is documented in the book and film that in the Dune universe consuming spice changes your eye colour to blue. In Dune lore, you must have a vast quantity of spice before it changes your eye colour.
