If you’ve been here for a while, you will know that we regularly team up with @makeupmadhouse to bring you epic SFX makeup inspiration. This time, not only is she showcasing a pair of our lenses in her latest look but she is also testing the Mehron 3D gel to bring you a comprehensive Mehron 3D gel tutorial.
For this makeup look, @makeupmadhouse has chosen a Glam Carrie theme inspired by the iconic scene in the 1976 film, Carrie. Using Mehron 3D gel is a great alternative to classic fake blood makeup because it is much less messy and easy to remove. As @makeupmadhouse shows, you can pre-prepare your 3D blood gel and stick it onto your skin using a skin-safe glue product such as spirit gum or liquid latex.
Let’s get into the steps for creating this Glam Carrie special effects makeup.
Firstly, you need to prepare your Mehron 3D gel by warming it up until it becomes liquid. Mehron recommends placing the container in hot water to gently warm up the product. When warm it is liquid, when cold it has a rubber-like texture. It can remain a little tacky so you can use a powder on top to minimise this. If you are using the clear 3D gel, you can add colour to it. For this tutorial, Carrie uses the blood 3D gel. If you want to add a glam twist to your makeup, you can add glitter to the 3D gel before it sets, as Carrie shows in her video.
You can then place the product directly on your skin or you can use the technique that Carrie has chosen to create your desired shapes. Take a piece of baking parchment and squeeze your 3D gel into the desired shape. Allow to cool and then apply to your skin with spirit gum or liquid latex. Your Halloween blood will have a deep red colour that can be paired with other types of fake blood for extra gore. In this tutorial, Carrie also uses a fake blood spray to add some blood splatters to her makeup.
Once Carrie has applied her fake blood details, she adds gems to give it a glam element, paired with a tiara. To complete her horror movie makeup, she adds coloured contact lenses. For this character, she has chosen Blue Solar Coloured Contacts from our collection of blue lenses. In the novel, Carrie is described as having dark brown eyes so you could also choose a pair of rich brown lenses.
If you are using SFX makeup and fake blood, take care when handling and wearing coloured contact lenses. Always thoroughly wash your hands before handling contact lenses and take care not to use fake blood products in or near the eyes. If you are using a fake blood spray, we recommend applying it before inserting your contact lenses. Make sure to carry out a patch test before using any makeup products to test for allergies, 24-48 hours before full application.
To remove your Mehron 3D gel, gently peel it off and wash the area with soap and water.
