What Movies Use Contact Lenses?

In the quest to achieve striking cinematic experiences, many actors are required to wear movie contact lenses. For some, a specific eye colour or design is chosen to stay true to the original material, for example, a book or comic book. For horror movies, creepy contact lenses are often used to completely disconnect the actors from their human form or to show that a character has been infected by a zombie virus. For others, it can enhance the world that is being created for fantasy genres.

While some celebrities report struggling to wear movie coloured contact lenses, often those who have hired an optometrist have the most success. It is important to note that often the golden rules of contact lens wear are broken and thus problems occur, for example, wearing the contact lenses for too long (especially if they are sclera lenses), or not getting the contact lenses fitted.

Do they use contact lenses in Twilight?

The actors in the Twilight Saga do wear contact lenses to match Stephenie Meyer’s descriptions. Robert Pattinson has been interviewed the most extensively on the subject as he had difficulty wearing his movie contacts. However, his co-star Kristen Stewart successfully wore coloured contact lenses for Bella in human and vampire form. Bella is described as having brown eyes while Kristen Stewart has naturally green eyes so she wore natural lenses. When she becomes a vampire, like all the other Cullen characters, she wears vampire contact lenses. The vampire eye colour varies depending on how bloodthirsty they are. A satiated vampire has black eyes while a newborn thirsty vampire has bright red. Depending on their chosen diet, they may also have golden or orange eyes. Here are some of our top picks for Twilight Lenses:

  • Black Halloween Contact Lenses
  • Orange Twilight Star Contact Lenses
  • Crazy Clown Contact Lenses
  • Orange Werewolf Contact Lenses

We have also seen cosplayers pairing Crazy Clown Lenses, Green Hulk Lenses and Green Werewolf Lenses with Mad Hatter makeup. Check out our Alice In Wonderland blog for costume inspiration.

To depict the paranoia and mental strain that Nina is experiencing in Black Swan, the character has red eyes when she fully transforms into the Black Swan. This powerful image is often the version of Nina that we see cosplayed and worn for Halloween. The dramatic eye makeup, feathers, and striking outfit are paired with intense red eyes that were achieved by custom contact lenses. Many of the other effects were created in post-production but the red eyes were movie lenses. Some of our popular styles for Black Swan eyes include Red Voldemort Lenses, Red Angelic Lenses and Red Halloween Lenses.

Did they use contact lenses in 28 Days Later?
