Coloured Contacts Share Similarities To Regular Lenses

The process of making coloured contacts starts with a regular clear soft contact lens. While the obvious difference between coloured contacts and regular lenses is their pigmentation, many of the other features are the same. You should expect your soft coloured contacts to be made of the same safe materials. Look for lenses that are FDA approved. For a comfortable fit, you want your contacts to have a high water content and breathable material. The way a coloured lens is made may lead to it being slightly thicker but if you aren’t used to inserting contacts, this can be helpful. The differences are so minor that you should be able to insert the lenses in the same way as your regular contacts and experience the same comfort.

You Can Wear Coloured Contacts Even If You Have Perfect Vision

While most people who have worn contact lenses before will have worn them for vision correction, coloured contact lenses are open to everyone. If you have perfect vision, choose a pair of non prescription coloured contacts. If you do need vision correction, you can choose the strength you need and still enjoy a colour change.

Only Wear One Lens At A Time - No Exceptions

Never be tempted to wear your coloured contact lenses over your regular lenses. Make sure to wear one lens at a time in your eyes - our range of Prescription Coloured Contact Lenses will help you to keep to this important rule while still enjoying clear vision.

You Will Need A Prescription And A Visit To The Eye Doctor

The important key to remember is you will need a contact lens fitting no matter what type of contact lenses you are purchasing. Even for non prescription lenses, you need to make sure the base curve and diameter match your eye measurements for a comfortable fit. Otherwise, the lenses may move around your eyes or even fall out. Getting a prescription is the first step to ensuring your eyes are safe when you wear coloured contact lenses. You want your visit to the eye doctor to be before you wear contact lenses to check they are suitable for your eyes and not after because of missing out this important step and causing yourself problems.

Don’t Put The Lenses Straight Into Your Eyes From The Packet

Once your eye doctor has confirmed which coloured contact lenses are best for your eyes it is over to you to keep your eyes safe. Following the correct procedures for preparing your lenses, including inspecting them and inserting them correctly, keeps your eyes safe and healthy. Never get tempted to push the boundaries by skipping soaking your lenses or wearing them for longer than recommended. It isn’t just about buying the right lenses for your eyes, it is equally as important to follow safety information.

Contact Lenses Are Not One Size Fits All

Be wary of any websites that do not provide the measurements of the contact lenses and claim to offer one-size-fits-all. There’s no such thing when it comes to contact lenses as everyone’s eyes are different!

You Shouldn’t Treat Your Lenses Like Other Props/Makeup - No Sharing

We always say it is one of the golden rules of contact lenses and it seems like an obvious one but you would be surprised by how many people try to break this golden rule. Never share your contact lenses, including coloured lenses. Even cleaning them in between wearers cannot completely remove the risk of transferring bacteria and infection. You wouldn’t share your toothbrush so don’t share your contact lenses!

Are Coloured Contacts A Good Gift?

When you purchase lenses, it is best to only purchase them for yourself. A pair of coloured contacts that are suitable for you may not be suitable for your friend. Gifting coloured contacts may seem like a fun idea, especially for someone who loves cosplay or SFX makeup, but make sure they have an up to date contact lens fitting and you know their measurements before you choose lenses with them.

If You Can Wear Regular Lenses, You Could Switch To Coloured Contacts

If you already wear soft contact lenses, you should find it easy to switch to colour contacts. There are many reasons you may want to switch to wearing coloured contacts. Here are just a few:

  • Switching To Coloured Contacts For An Event - Seasonal parties such as New Year, Christmas and carnival are great reasons to try something new with your makeup. Many people enjoy adding coloured contacts to their looks for a bright pop of colour.
  • Dressing Up In Coloured Contacts For Halloween - The spooky season is the most popular time of year for coloured contacts. They add an extra scary element to your Halloween costume.
  • Trying A New Everyday Eye Colour - Our prescription coloured contact lenses are available in a range of natural designs so you can change your eye colour and regularly wear coloured contacts for vision correction; from subtle designs to complete colour transformations. We also stock non prescription natural lenses if you only want to change your eye colour.
  • Covering A Discoloured Iris - Make sure to check the suitability with your eye doctor first but some of our coloured contacts wearers may have differences in their iris. They may choose to wear natural lenses to create matching eye colours or they may want to wear lenses that cover their pupil in order to reduce the amount of light that enters the eye.
  • Every Season Is Cosplay Season - If you love to cosplay, you may want to build a collection of coloured contact lenses so you can transform into your favourite characters whenever you want.
  • Fashion Coloured Contact Lenses - If you love a particular aesthetic, there may be an eye colour you would like to go with it. For example, in the Gothic community, our white and black lenses are very popular.

What are the disadvantages of coloured contacts?

There are a few disadvantages to consider, if you plan on regularly wearing coloured contact lenses. Some wearers experience a ‘halo’ effect around their vision, particularly with intensely pigmented lenses such as costume lenses. If you do experience this effect then why not try a pair of our enhancing natural lenses? These lenses feature a design around the edge of the iris but some don’t have pigment around the inner ring of the iris.

For some people, they can feel wary of trying coloured contact lenses due to scary news stories, anecdotes or a lack of trust in online purchases. It can feel daunting to choose a website to buy coloured contacts online but if you know what to look for then you can protect yourself against fraudulent sellers. Look for a supplier of FDA Approved lenses to ensure your eyes are safe.

At Coloured Contacts, you will find FDA Approved lenses for every occasion including natural everyday wear, cosplay, parties, and costumes.
