In case you don’t know the story of A Christmas Carol, mean old miserly Ebenezer Scrooge has forgotten the spirit of Christmas. He treats his employee Bob Cratchit poorly and does not participate in any festivities nor is he charitable during the Christmas season. He is awoken during the night on Christmas Eve by three ghosts; the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. Each of the ghosts has a lesson for Scrooge who wakes on Christmas day and becomes a changed man, ready to spread cheer and goodwill for the season.
Scrooge is usually portrayed in Victorian era dress during the day but at night he wears a long nightshirt and hat. This classic Scrooge costume nightgown is the version that @hollymurraymakeup has opted for in her full body paint of Scrooge. Her amazing talents allow her to paint on realistic clothing as well as age her face.
For her Scrooge makeup, she has chosen to add a prosthetic nose, false sideburns, and glasses. This amazing transformation completely changes Holly’s face into this mean old skinflint. She has also added a pair of natural colored contact lenses to complete the look. For this costume, Holly opted for a pair of lenses from our Enhance Tint range which are suited to light eye colors. If you have a dark eye color that you would like to cover, we have plenty of options available. In the book, Scrooge’s eye color is not given; there is mention of his eyes turning red due to the cold within him that froze his features which can be created with red colored contact lenses such as Red Voldemort, Red Angelic, or Red Blood. Our top picks for natural Scrooge contact lenses are:
While Scrooge is the central character in the story, every character is important to Scrooge’s reflection on himself and change of heart. Holly completed a series of Scrooge costumes Christmas Carol including the ghosts.
In the book, the Ghost of Christmas Past is described as looking like an old man and also as a child. It has long white hair but a smooth face and it has light streaming from the top of its head. Charles Dickens paints an eerie picture that Holly has followed with this ethereal being. The addition of clock faces and drips is a genius idea for this ghost makeup. The silver detailing, soft pink lips, and long white eyelashes add to the ghostly spirit effect and give the illusion of an ageless entity. For her Ghost of Christmas Past costume, Holly completed the look with a beaded headband, blonde wig and White Blind Colored Contact Lenses. The blanked out iris and pupil give a supernatural look to this makeup.
In contrast, the Ghost of Christmas Present is described as joyful and cheerful with brown curls. Holly shows this by choosing bright festive colors for her Ghost of Christmas Present costume. She paints Christmas tree branches, holly leaves and berries across her shoulders and adds a beautiful wine red wig. She reflects the red tones in her eyes with the Red Voldemort Colored Contact Lenses and rosy eye makeup.
In this fantastic compilation video, we also get a glimpse of Holly’s Ghost of Christmas Future costume. Her spooky skull makeup is themed with blue and black colors for a ghostly look. In the book, the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come is dressed in a black robe that completely covers its form and the only part that is seen is an outstretched arm. Holly imagines the ghost having skeletal features, soft blue hair and silver tears rolling down its face. We love her take on this character and her imagining of its face.
