One of the most popular Christmas character costumes every holiday season is The Grinch. This mean green character has many iterations on the page and on screen but one of the most famous is Jim Carey’s portrayal in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. You can copy the Grinch’s yellow eyes with a pair of our contact lenses. The most popular choice is the Yellow Avatar Colored Contacts but we also stock several other colors that look awesome for the Grinch, such as Yellow Angelic Lenses and Yellow UV Lenses. While he is often shown with yellow eyes, some of our affiliates wore the classic White Halloween Lenses to complete their Grinch cosplay. Check out the Grinch blog to see our affiliates creating makeup for this iconic character.
One of our more unusual collaborations is this Home Alone makeup series with @rubymediamakeup. Ruby specialises in SFX gore so her amazing talents were perfect for re-creating the Home Alone injuries that the Wet Bandits sustain from Kevin McCallister’s tricks. If you are looking for unique Christmas movie costumes for adults that will test your makeup skills then this is such a fun idea. The clothing can be thrifted or taken from your own wardrobe and you can create makeup for any of the iconic pranks from the Home Alone movies.
One of the most traditional Christmas stories is The Nutcracker. It may have started as a book but there are now many versions that you can watch including the classic ballet. In our Nutcracker blog, we share some of the amazing makeup and costumes that our affiliates have created for the characters in the Nutcracker including Clara, The Nutcracker, and The Mouse King.
Many Christmas movies have a dark twist but The Krampus is a pure horror movie. The Krampus character originates from Bavarian folklore. This terrifying character is said to come on the night before Saint Nicholas to snatch away any evil children while they sleep. This is a far cry from the simple punishment of coal for being on Santa’s naughty list but this dark tale is the perfect premise for a scary Christmas movie. If you want to make a Christmas movie costume DIY then you will need a robe or cloak to wear as the Krampus. In @alemoravoice’s Krampus makeup, he has chosen a classic red Santa suit. His horns protrude from the hood while his clawed hand reaches out. His face is pale and deeply lined and his eyes are dark. The red irises of his eyes are that of a monster. This creepy Christmas costume will test your makeup skills and provide a Gothic alternative to the usual Christmas costumes.
Another tale that has a warning to us all is A Christmas Carol. This story does have a happy ending, but first miserly Ebenezer Scrooge must learn some lessons he will never forget. We meet the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To Come; each with an important message for Scrooge.
@hollymurraymakeup has created a series of Christmas movie characters costumes for A Christmas Carol, starting with Scrooge. For your Scrooge costume, you will need a nightshirt, hat, and optionally, a pair of glasses. Alternatively, you can depict him in a Victorian era suit. There are many movie versions of Scrooge so you can base your character off any of these or create your own. For her makeup look, Holly has chosen to add a prosthetic nose and grey hair. This incredibly talented makeup artist has painted on Scrooge’s nightshirt but you can opt for real clothes if you are going out or performing in your costume.
Next in Holly’s series is the Ghost of Christmas Past. This eerie look features the White Blind Colored Contacts to blank out the iris. This is paired with white clock faces and drips, white eyelashes, and a white headpiece. This spooky version of the Ghost of Christmas Past will test your creative makeup skills. If you are adding the White Blind Lenses to your Christmas movie costumes take note that the lenses will obscure your vision so they are best kept for photoshoots.
Scrooge also meets the Ghost of Christmas Present. Holly has chosen a Christmas color theme for this makeup look that looks incredible! She has painted on Christmas tree branches with red berries and holly leaves on her shoulders and paired it with a wine red wig and red colored contact lenses. This movie can provide plenty of amazing characters to dress as whether you are performing A Christmas Carol or wearing fancy dress for the holidays.
While many of Tim Burton’s films have festive scenes, Edward Scissorhands is our go-to Tim Burton movie during Christmas. This enchanting yet dark tale is still captivating us. Edward Scissorhands has an unusual appearance thanks to his costume, hair, and scissorhands. This is paired with dark eyes, pallid skin, and scars on his face. Several of our affiliates have painted themselves as Edward and have also painted on his costume. These body paint artists are able to achieve astounding realism to the look of the clothing. Check out the blog here to see a range of Edward Scissorhands costumes.

We know he isn’t in a Christmas movie but each Aldi Christmas advert is like a mini movie! We hope it won’t be long before Kevin the Carrot gets more screen time in his own Christmas adventure. @nickiteal tried her hand at bringing Kevin to life in her Christmas makeup series.
