One of Pinhead’s spookiest features is his eyes. In the original film, he has black eyes with white sclera. However, in the reboot, Pinhead has completely black eyes and sclera. There are several types of Hellraiser eye contacts that you can add to your costume to create this look:
Given Pinhead is an other-worldly being, changing your eye color with Hellraiser contact lenses will help your costume to look movie-screen-ready and will certainly increase the spook factor.
Pinhead cosplays present makeup artists with an unusual challenge. The gory red square lines are paired with a white face which is easy to achieve with body paint or other types of makeup. The challenge comes with the pins. Whether you make them yourself or use pre-made fake pins, they aren’t easy to keep in place. You will need a skin-friendly adhesive if you plan to place them on individually. Alternatively, you can get a Pinhead mask or make your own prosthetic by attaching the pins to a mask. This method may keep the pins in place more securely and makes it easier to wear your Pinhead costume to a fancy dress or cosplay event. You will also need a black outfit to go with your makeup. Several of our affiliates have taken on the challenge of creating Pinhead costumes so scroll down to see their versions of the original Pinhead and the rebooted Pinhead.
@mandie.strangefx has created a female Pinhead but with the original Pinhead costume. She has also added the Lament Configuration Box as a prop which is used to summon the Cenobites in the movie. She painstakingly applied the ‘pins’ to her makeup and completed the look with the Blood Splat Colored Contact Lenses for extra gore.
If you don’t want to buy a Hellraiser costume then @fancymay_makeup has the perfect solution. She has made a DIY Pinhead costume including painted-on clothing. This clever makeup will test your skills while keeping you within budget. For her Hellraiser cosplay, she has opted for the Black Mini Sclera Colored Contact Lenses as a final touch to her costume.
@fancymay_makeup cleverly created her own bald cap using cling film as you can see in her awesome Pinhead makeup tutorial. If you want to try making your own Hellraiser costume, follow along with each step to try out this freaky Halloween costume. We love the clever blue blending to add extra dimension to the final look. @fancymay_makeup did an amazing job, keeping those pins securely in place.
In this post by @artbybmazz we get to see her progress from the first time she created a Pinhead cosplay to her most recent costume. This is your sign to try out your skills and start your SFX makeup journey.
If you want to see how she did it, @artbybmazz created this Hellraiser costume tutorial video so you can see her technique for turning into Pinhead. For this look, she chose the Black Mini Sclera Colored Contact Lenses.

We teamed up with @ladyparadoxx to bring you this epic Hellraiser Pinhead costume. This sinister pose is perfect for Pinhead. If you are sharing your Pinhead look on socials, remember to try out a few different backgrounds and poses to get the spookiest Halloween look.
For this look, @ladyparadoxx is wearing the Black Hellraiser Colored Contact Lenses. Hellraiser contacts feature a black iris with a red limbal ring (outer ring). It is subtle but super creepy and can be worn for plenty of other Halloween characters.
@ladyparadoxx is channelling her inner horror villain in this terrifying video of her Halloween Pinhead costume thanks to those gory pins.
The Pinhead pins can be the hardest part of creating this makeup. If you want to try something easier that has a better chance of surviving a party or event, swap the pins for silver studs just like @mua_theresa. This alternative version of Pinhead makeup looks awesome and will give you plenty of DIY outfit options. For this look, she is wearing the White Blind Colored Contacts which do obscure vision but look amazing for a photoshoot.
The Hellraiser franchise gives us nightmares and to see our affiliates bring this character to life, it is clear that a Pinhead costume is a great choice if you want your Halloween look to be super scary. For this character, black colored contact lenses are an essential part of the costume to give the illusion that you are descended from an alien race. Of course, you could try making your own Cenobite character or interpretation of Pinhead based on the original description from the books. Don’t forget to share your SFX looks with us on socials, especially during Halloween, for your chance to be shared or spotted by our affiliate team.
Halloween is on the way and now is a good time to start preparing so you don't miss out. Check out this blog about Creepy Doll Contact Lenses so you can be ready with a Chucky or Annabelle costume when the spirits come out on Halloween.
