Botched Barbie Instagram Makeup Trend

The Barbie movie garnered an array of responses from those that absolutely adored it to those that thought it was full of stereotypes and anti-man discourse. Instagrammers and TikTokers have been using their platforms to share a range of Barbie makeup looks from fun ‘what I would look like as a Barbie’ videos to the Botched Barbie makeup trend that celebrates people for being unique. The video usually shows a stereotypical blonde Barbie makeup transformation, followed by a series of botched cosmetic surgery procedures. Creators then end the journey by revealing their real selves and celebrating that we are all unique.

While the movie does go some way to busting stereotypes of Barbie’s traditional looks, it opens up plenty of questions about beauty standards and our attitudes toward diversity. This Botched Barbie trend is a great response to the need for change in our beauty industry and toy industry to celebrate every person exactly as they are.

In her Botched Barbie look, she heavily exaggerates the lips, adds surgical scars and markings as well as a bandage to her nose. This gruesome look at the harsh realities of cosmetic procedures is something worth sharing as is the celebration of natural beauty. 

@beckycornwall.m.u.a is the next to take on the Barbie trend Instagram, showing bruises and surgical markings on her face and chest. This is coupled with her regular Barbie makeup which uses the clever trick of painting part of the lip white to create Barbie’s teeth. For this design, she has added the Blue Angelic Colored Contact Lenses to majorly highlight Barbie’s classic baby blue eyes.

We are in love with @sammyjosbeautycase’s take on the Barbie trend social media. For her Instagram reel, she not only shows Barbie going through major cosmetic surgery but also celebrates her unique self. Like most of the videos from this trend, she uses the classic ‘Barbie Girl’ song to lip sync. However, in this case, she titles the look ‘Not Your Barbie Girl’. For this look, she wears the Aqua Mermaid Colored Contact Lenses for the Barbie girl section and embraces her natural eye color when she reveals her beautiful natural self.

@caykeface has created quite possibly the most terrifying Barbie makeup of all. Her botched makeup features prosthetics and gore that are on a whole new level. Paired with the finishing touch of the Blue Super Sky Lenses, both her stereotypical Barbie and Botched Barbie look show off her incredible makeup skills. Underneath it all, it sends out an important message. As you will see from the final reveal of herself and her makeup choice, she is all about color! A glance at her Instagram page and you will see that rainbows and bright neon tones are her jam and colored contact lenses help her to achieve the look that she loves. 

This Barbie trend is so much more than a makeup video to try but sends out an important message to people that you are Kenough just as you are.
